21st Century Racism

In Rochelle, Ga., Wilcox County High School just recently held it’s first unsegregated prom.  The school got around the technicality by letting the parents control all invitations and setting up dances.  For many years there has been two proms, one for whites and one for blacks until recently. For years students have tried to end this practice, but only until recently have student really taken the issue into their own hands.  Four girls, two african american and two white,  created a facebook page asking for support and donations to throw their own prom.

“We were doing that so we could get the word out, so that some people would be able to donate and help us out with what we were doing,” said senior Mareshia Rucker.

This dance was not sanctioned, so it technically doesn’t count.  The school officially still held two segregated dances.

I commend those 4 girls for what they did.  They tried to break out of the regime of unfair segregation.  Even though the school didn’t officially recognize the dance, they helped their school take a huge step forward into this decade. Maybe in the future the school will hold an unsegregated dance and  get rid of a ridiculous tradition that has no place in today’s society.

Rain, Rain Go Away! Come Back…NEVER!

According to the students at WGHS, rain is NOT a good thing.  Some students do enjoy rain, but when they are inside drinking hot chocolate! Hannah Kehmna said,”I hate the fact the weather man is constantly wrong, because I come to school in the completely wrong clothes for the weather!”

BANNED!

Image

April Fools’ Day has been officially banned in 36 of our states, including California!  The ban was proposed to the council because someone on the board got badly pranked last year.  Through a lot of persuasion, the ban was passed.   Sorry guys, I guess it was fun while it lasted!

Have a happy NON-April Fools’ Day!
